Los diuréticos son drogas o medicamentos cuyo efecto sobre el organismo concretamente sobre el riñon, es aumentar la excresión de orina. Esto lo consiguen en general aumentando la eliminación renal de cloruro sódico, al que sigue pasivamente, por un mecanismo osmótico, el agua.
En fin, el resultado de la acción de estas drogas o medicamentos es incrementar la pérdida renal de sal y agua, produciendo un aumento de volúmen de orina, con la consiguiente pérdida de peso.
Es importante tener en cuenta que la disminución de peso conseguida con la ingesta de diuréticos es proporcional y dependientes de la depleción de cloruro sódico que los mismos inducen y que como efecto indirecto de esto se produce una disminución de la tensión anterial.
